Also worth noting that the public consistently overestimates spending for some of these things, such as foreign aid. If you tell them what percentage is actually spend, they tend to adjust their opinions.

That’s true, but most Americans don’t have a clue what the federal government spends on anything else either, whether it be elderly care, K-12 education., prisons or whatever.
How misinformed the average American is about politics and world events is a real indictment of current media. Just an utter failure to inform the public.
I’ve seen this chart before, and the 25% are just sending me. Also, it makes me seriously wonder about the methodology of this survey, because the number is so absurdly high.

Foreign aid is super unpopular until you tell people … what it actually is and what it actually costs. Then it is a no-brainer.
