@sarahlongwell25.bsky.social: "This does seem like a moment where you would think people who really do care about our national security...would be out here decrying what is going on...Mattis, Milley, anybody...Where is everybody?"

Executive producer of the powerful new film, “Words of War,” Hollywood legend Sean Penn calls collapse of USAID “‘negligent homicide.” Watch the full video here youtu.be/qVvBqi5TD0s?...

Harvard Law professor Michael Klarman gave an inspiring lecture about the need for lawyers to protect democracy. I was honored that he noted the attacks and threats aimed at me. His words serve to steel my spine and make me more committed than ever to fighting for democracy. Thank you professor.🙏

In a brief filed this evening, seven transgender service members and one prospective recruit urged the justices to leave in place a judge’s order that blocked the Trump administration from enforcing a policy prohibiting anyone with gender dysphoria from serving in the military.

You can’t “deport” American citizens ... phenomenal explainer open.substack.com/pub/contrari...

“He did something that prosecutors are absolutely forbidden to do — use the law enforcement powers of the government to try to intimidate these individuals or destroy their rights. This is so far past the line of prosecutorial profess and ... principles of justice.” www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/u...

Trump fires his NatSec Adviser Mike Waltz after Signal scandal—then bizarrely nominates him for UN Ambassador. Cabinet chaos, war threats, economic freefall, and drunk-tweet diplomacy. Catch up:

In a move that raises very serious First Amendment issues, ICE executed a major splashy operation in California aiming to arrest a guy for posting fliers with names, pictures, and apparent phone numbers for ICE HSI agents. I am struggling to think what possible law posting that info could violate.

Oklahoma Education Commissar Ryan Walters announces new academic standards for the coming school year. Among other things, all students will be required to learn Trump's version of the 2020 election.

Recently, when I have argued publicly for a path to permanent legal status for the undocumented, I have been making a deliberate effort to highlight the way in which legalization can *reduce* labor exploitation.

DOJ went to SCOTUS today, asking for DHS Sec. Noem to be allowed to implement her action ending Temporary Protected Status for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans in the U.S. while the admin appeals a loss below in which the judge concluded that Noem's rationale for the move "smacks of racism."

Considering how obsessed Trump’s top people are with calling everything “communism,” it’s ironic how much Beattie's witch hunt at State seems like a page from Soviet history, with Party commissars trying to identify ideological saboteurs in their midst. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

With the shuttering of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, rules are changing on bank overdraft fees, medical debt’s credit impact and more.

Bondi continues to make a big deal of the block-long chase to apprehend suspect in Dugan case. She’s got it totally backwards. The far greater threat to public safety is the many criminal defendants w/ immigration problems who won’t show up for court now, thinking they could be arrested and deported

EDUCATION: PROJECT 2025 COMES TRUE @joycewhitevance.bsky.social “Federal education policy should be limited and, ultimately, the federal U.S. Department of Education should be eliminated.” THOSE ARE THE OPENING WORDS IN THE EDUCATION CHAPTER OF PROJECT 2025. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

Last night,Russia launched a very deliberate&demonstrative massive strike on Odesa: that's the ceasefire you get. This is very usual for prison culture:to beat up& kill demonstratively. I will repeat the facts once more: Russia is a terrorist state. Putin is a war criminal

This is insane

The decision by who, Mike?

It's a MYSTERY!

His assault on the judiciary continues. SCOTUS gave him a whiff of absolute power last year. He wants it all. No checks. No balances.

This won’t end well. When Jeff Sessions tried this in 2017 he ended up with a handful of cases in North Carolina, most of them misdemeanors & ultimately dismissed. bottom line: voter suppression is the problem, not fraud. www.reuters.com/world/us/was...

The Trump administration has moved to reinstate at least 24,000 federal probationary employees fired in the president’s push to shrink the government, according to filings in one of two cases in which a federal judge ruled the terminations illegal.

This is the third public incident of a European tourist being detained at a land border by CBP and sent to ICE, rather than being permitted to withdraw their application for admission. While these incidents have occurred under every admin, this does suggest a more aggressive CBP under Trump.

As the US retreats into 1930's style isolationism, it's worth remembering that many vocal "America First" figures were extremely sympathetic toward the Nazis, and wanted to keep the US out of another European war "stoked by Jewish financiers." Anyway, it all turned out fine, right?

He legit ran on this. But the story was buried under Joe Biden old.

Kaine: "They may have talked abusively, but they ended up backing down, not Canada. And they backed down because tariffs are a stupid idea that only hurt Americans."

Congrats, folks. NATO is over. Fan-fucking-tastic.

Also worth noting that the public consistently overestimates spending for some of these things, such as foreign aid. If you tell them what percentage is actually spend, they tend to adjust their opinions.

"On November 11, one of Putin’s closest allies complained about how, 'election pledges in the United States can [d]iverge from subsequent actions.' Patrushev warned that, this time, Trump will 'be obliged to fulfill' his 'corresponding obligations.'"

The complete lack of respect these guys have for labor is sickening. It’s related to Hegseth’s idiotic view that the military is about fighting and not logistics. Paying a thousand people to think about wars is way more cost effective than 1 dipshit rushing a country into one.
