This "gaming generation gap" is sending me.
Just saw a youtube video about how "Metroid is actually a really good game!" like it didn't spawn a major franchise.
We're weeks way from "Tetris is a hidden gem. This may look like a mobile game but this was actually sold in stores."

Meanwhile Tetris is timeless, kind of like Pac-man. Its simplicity does it a lot of favors.
you know, young people used to be famously foolish, but now they have money so companies make them feel smart.
I have even seen several talking about Skyrim as being cringe!
"What do you mean peak physical form is a furry?! I knew it!"
Eternal Darkness was kind of a Mortal Kombat knock off but still held it's ground well as a game.
I'd rather them do that than write off the old games because they are old.
They're good games, but it's very obvious to me that they were also the first games of its genre that most people played.
Because people act like they're totally revolutionary and had never been done before.
Like when I saw the elden ring trailer like, "Wait we're doing this now. Is this what gaming is?"
So many personal watershed moments.
Souce: I had a NES but had to go to Toys R Us to play the display GameBoy
The other day I saw someone talk about CoD series trends but all of them were things that started in MW2019
Hey- I'm a game develoer and artist. Currently working on a platformer based on my comic.
But some of it is kind of really like "gaming didn't exist until 2001." which is silly and you'd think people who love games would understand it's history in context.
It's kind of the opposite problem of elitists like, "80's NES games were REAL games, modern games are trash." in retro channels.
I especially love when people say they hate Zelda 2 because it strayed from the formula. There WAS no formula. It was the second game in the franchise. It’s also not that hard.
Rock guys are like "these new musicians suck. Buy my record."
Rappers are like "I can't believe how good this kid is. Let me collaborate please!"
There's a gaming generation gap?
Mentioned it earlier this week and folks confirmed it. Apparently there's "gamers who literally cannot play 80s games" or think they barely count as games.
Their reference point tends to be the post Xbox generation.
Tetris, Tetris would surprise me if it happened any time soon.
The original metroid was hugely popular and spawned a franchise.
Like if they said "other M is actually good" (for some reason, hehe) that would fall in line with expectations of that kind of essay.

When you look at their receptions, Zelda utterly laps it even in the old days. Metroid kinda IS hidden gemmy, especially with how long it went dormant.
"Pong was ahead of its time"
Or something like that.
I had an idea last week for tetris with curves instead of blocks. and while I'm sure someone's made it I'm terrified to look for it lol
Now Super Metroid was smooth as hell.
You only have a D pad but it feels like analog.
Well coming from NES at least.
After Super you're absolutely gonna appreciate Zero Mission and AM2R gogogo <3
And then, you find one beautiful little creature who understands a reference you made to Deliverance, and you just want to hug them for the wonder they are.
Honestly, I think these are popular because people will engage with the absurdity of the claim.
Corrections are engagement.
Most other franchises release simultaneously on XBox, PS, and PC, while Nintendo has been sitting on their franchises and not letting them go. I haven't had one since the cube.
