And really, it's not just fascists, they are just the obvious ones. People keep electing authoritarians, who will always betray the democratic process, undermine it, suppress more and more voters, until they achieve unchecked power. They never work in the interest of the common people.
There’s an “Answers With Joe” you tube video on Accelerationism which does a fairly decent job of explaining. Not sure it’s true though! The theory is it’s because each generation reacts to the previous one in one of 4 ways so after 4 generations you’re back where you started.. 1/
"Answers With Joe" posted this a year ago. It starts with the idea of 4 phases of society. Phase 4=major crisis (e.g. WW2). Phase 1: The high period which rejects war & embraces prosperity. Phase 2: Awakening, rejecting Phase 1 constraints (cultural rebellion).. 2/ https://youtu.be/CQmoQEeNYrs?si=-klRPRXM5OYggoUD&t=477
Phase 3: Unravelling (individualism and growing inequality), leading to a Phase 4 again. Our generation of billionaire oligarchs (Musk, Thiel, Zuckerberg etc) want to accelerate Phase 4 to avoid an even worse crisis later. Supposedly.
I remember appeasement being a bolded vocabulary word in my high school history book to emphasize how Hitler fooled even us for a time. How quickly people forget or believe it could never happen here. I guess it was only a matter of time. Viva la Revolution!
Those who lost the Civil War, who are now Republicans, have systematically destroyed education in their states. The Americans in those states are not learning about fascism and the harms it created for the world.
Just like they are not learning about US History, reading, etc. It is by design.
I don't understand why we honored the tradition of peaceful transfer of power when it comes to a fascist who is going to destroy our democracy. We all know it. He had already shown he was capable of it. So why did we just impotently let it happen?
The average person focuses on their day to day life and gives little thought to events in the wider world that aren't impacting them personally. Every grade from K thru 12 should be taught current events and civic responsibility. Every election should be a class exercise in voting.
