Fun activity!
The Forest Service published an interactive, public version of the “Log First, Ask Questions Later” map, aka “Emergency Situation Determination” map.

The ☢️ 🌳 we don’t own are gone now, but there are still issues.
Let’s catch ‘em all!

Either some hapless Forest Service spatial analyst is intentionally making big mistakes in their geo-processing workflow to slow down the whole idea / entangle the government in legal trouble…
Or, something is deeply amiss with the government’s carefully thought out plans here…
You can see the boundaries on the Forest Service Visitor Use Map.
As Wilderness, they are NOT open to logging.
But the “Log First, Ask Questions Later” map shows lands in both Wilderness Areas as fair game.
Why?
Looking forwarding to overlaying this on wilderness and roadless area layers.

It’s mind boggling that someone failed to clip these out; it’s a fairly glaring error.
More power to them if it’s some subversive, resisting USFS worker, making mistakes requiring do-overs!
1) HFRA 602 lands
2) “high and very high” fire risk derived via LANDFIRE
They possibly had trouble converting the raster dataset (I presume this was what was provided w/ the original Press Release / Rollins Memo) to a vector dataset.
But I looked at the WHP dataset that it’s allegedly tied to & I saw discrepancies.
And, the WHP data has a disclaimer about proper use.
If they are seriously using this map to underpin forest policy, it’s highly suspect.
Thanks for sharing that pretty photo to illustrate the true situation on the ground in an area the Secretary of Agriculture has boasted about opening up for logging 😅
Hope she’s not bitter about being mocked…
