That doesn't prevent it happening again, ofc.
In old days, I could understand needing someone else to publish & distribute a game. Make physical media. Connections to get on store shelves.
Now we have internet & Steam. Why add another layer to all that?
Ok, sure, for larger projects you need a larger team, but it still feels like the industry is churning out 21st century technology, but their industry is stuck with a late 20th century org chart.
but it's also...increasingly inevitable.
many countries outside the US also have good funding models and grants programs that are helping.
