The Last of Us feels more & more like Telltale's The Walking Dead game, in that they were both the high points for gaming back in their day & had extraordinary narratives, showcasing the power of gaming as an art form...& then those who copied them after (including their sequels) missed the points.

For me it's not even a matter of whether or not they're good, it's that people make them out to be the first games to have narrative or thematic depth and it's just not true by any metric. Even if we're going the rigid "cinematic game" route Metal Gear Solid has them beat by over a decade.

I still consider it funny how one critic said TLoU Part II was gaming's Schindler's List, because it reminded me of the numerous award bait holocaust films that followed in the movie's wake that figured just copying the surface-level themes was enough.
