that, representing the physical organisation, is logical to me, what throws me off are paleo-geologists that draw the x-axis arrow POINTING TO THE LEFT, to indicate time that has passed from today... and also: uncertain when it started (exactly)

Nice vis. I've been trying to do something similar for sea-level extremes, but most of our individual sites are a bit too gappy for the signal to stand out much.
