My central heating went on the blink a few days ago & I’ve been thinking a lot about fuel poverty, how cold is tolerable for a couple of days if you’re fit & healthy (& I still had hot water) but longer & its gets gloomy, depressing & hard to concentrate. A basic fuel allowance should be free to all

Elderly people can't handle the cold. My 91 yr old mum has heating on all the time, she can afford it.
The cost to run an oil radiator was obscene, didn’t really warm us up.
It was so depressing working, being so cold you were shivering and couldn’t feel fingers or toes.
Many millions of people can’t or struggle and have to ration.
(Also - is fixed now, thank god!).
Went almost three weeks without hot water.
Oil heat in a big drafty house is killer.
