My opinion of capitalism is that it can work to create equality, and the fact that it’s never produced the desired results very long or very well doesn’t prove that it’s a bad idea or system.

Which is how many people feel about communism.

I assume they don't know how class-based society came to be in the first place, and assume there can be no classes but still have the concept of private property, which is important to differentiate from personal property. That's what characterizes capitalism anyway, this private property

If there is equality, so no means for people to get over the other in wealth, there can't be private property as it'd be there for making profit. If there's equality there's no distinction of classes. You just have socialism

Capitalism might be able to work better than it does, but it never does that for very long and it never does it well, and it never does it for everybody. An underclass is always required. Slaves, indentured servants, prisoners, the homeless, the poor, the people with no choice but to die or obey.

The very means by which capitalism regulates itself are corrupt. At least a bureaucracy could perhaps constrain corrupt impulses; the extent to which capitalism has coincided with equality, is the extent to which capital was being dominated by a socially-focused bureaucracy.

I keep thinking about this discussion in a freshman philosophy class where people were talking about how it's "equality of opportunity, not of outcome," so I asked if they'd support banning inheritance or even just private grade schools, and the answer was "no, that would be unfair"
