Laptop jobs are better because of pay, autonomy, and respect, not anything innate to the form of labor. If you only look at the actual tasks involved (minus management attitude, customer behavior, low pay) I much preferred stocking shelves. Under socialism I would use computers for fun times only

The law banning the clock app and the precedent the supreme court set are a big deal. I wouldn't be flippant about it, but that doesn't mean it's surprising. This was always going to happen when things got serious. It'll keep escalating from here. It's frustrating to see people so unprepared

STEM is so cool. Science is amazing. Kids should develop curiosity about how the universe works and proficiency in uncovering its secrets, so that they can most effectively optimize clickthrough rates on banner ads at the bottom of VC-funded website-apps.

I'm sure it depends on the group and area but my commie reading group experience has been that the people in them are usually also involved in a variety of other orgs/projects. People who only do the book club seem to get pulled into something else eventually, often through those connections.

So many posts like "I see why AI is bad for writing, but it's indispensable for code" and I really disagree... While I'm sure it puts out better code than prose, every use case I can think of would be harder than figuring it out myself or using tools we *already have*, at least in the long run.

there's got to be a sweet spot for giving out personal information as an anonymous account where someone COULD figure out your real identity but they wouldn't be able to really prove it. Like if you went "? that's not me" everyone in real life would believe you
