Something about the journey more important, also if that were true I would have looked at the first page and seen page one thousand and whatever of the second Patrick Rothfuss book and been like 'nah im good'
Right? I’m always covering up the text on last page, praying I don’t see a spoiler, so I can check out how many pages there are. Because I like to know and I read actual physical books.
I agree! I always look to see how many pages there actually are because often there are acknowledgements, author notes, a chapter of their next book, etc. The back cover doesn't always signify the end.
For anyone who genuinely wants a book that does this: Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk! The book's story is told during a plane crash and it's a countdown to moment of impact.
Funnily enough I lowkey hate this. Best part about ebooks for me is that the page number isn't easily available. I read more when I don't know how many pages I have left to read.
If the numbers are counting down for you when you read the Hebrew Bible then the story is of a people slowly diminishing and ultimately arriving in paradise before the undoing of the universe. Which I think is the plot of the last Narnia book.
Ok but the publishing process (of the actual physical making of a book) is enough of a headache (beloved, but still) without adding that to the mix, so, like, no thank you
I feel you! 😂 I read Fight Club earlier this year for the same reason atheists read the Bible and, like many atheists, I found a book where its biggest fans miss the point it’s trying (however successfully) to make by the largest margin 💀 But his irreverent writing style scratches an itch for me!
Sort of like Mile markers on the highway from the other direction, eh?
As a youngun, I once read a book from last page to first, just to see if I could, and still enjoy it
I don't want some books to end, so counting down to the end would just add to a sad state. I want the ending to jump out at me and shake my brain into activity.

Riveted.
To me, that suggests you are finding the book tedious and can't wait for it to finish.
Genius!
Please use your superpower wisely. 😂💙
I warn you though, this is tough stuff.

I bookmark them ahead of time in physical books

"what do you mean I only have twenty pages left? They haven't even kissed yet!"
😬🤣
Great book BTW
