Too bad Mao thought that cutting deals with US imperialism was more important than solidarity with proletarian revolutionary movements in Asia and Africa.

Mao saw the Soviet Union as the primary global threat and moved to normalize relations with the U.S., despite it being the leading imperialist power. This led to China even voting alongside the U.S. in the UN and openly opposing Soviet-aligned socialist movements.

The last communist in Soviet Russia died with Stalin. China and the USSR would have been a united front, if Khrushchev did not implement destalinization as a political power grab.

The Chinese communists learned from this, which is why Xi champions both Mao and Deng.
