I was blessed with mostly good teachers. I think the worst was one who taught that the Civil War was about states rights, but it was the mid 80s, and that was coming into vogue as the "educated" answer. Five years later, Ken Burns would be shoving it down our throats. Can I just say, fuck Ken Burns?

Pretty good article. My take on it is, Burns loved the comfortable conciliatory narrative that it was all just a Big Tiff and we got over it. He didn't want to face the very different philosophies that motivated the two sides by the end of the war.

High School Freshman and Junior English Teacher-Pet peeve was people saying "Bless You" after someone sneezed. In Georgia. Yikes.
