Kind of. But you can throw a backwards pass, then a forward pass. But you can only throw one forward pass per down. Have you ever seen a last-second kickoff return where the team keeps lateraling to keep the ball alive?

Here’s an example of one. Long forward pass, then nothing but backwards or sideways laterals. Really resembles a phase in rugby when it gets going

It's a pretty basic cut 1 wrap in rugby (if you allow for the forward pass). It's a training move we teach 11 year olds.

Timing of it when it is executed for a TD looks easy. But that lineman gets engaged even for a second the handoff becomes a non-option.
