Facing Trump’s lunacy the UK now has some idea how Brexit felt to the EU. An idea that never made sense, promoted by scoundrels, voted for by the lied to, which led to fracturing trade with long-term allies, making both sides worse off, and all for nothing.

The big difference being that that, in the end, the EU just shrugged their shoulders, and carried on w/o the UK (who, TBF, had often been a pain within the EU). Whereas Trump's narcissicistic bullying will demand constant attention & kowtowing, with increasing petulance if not given.

Yes - the bluster and arrogance of the Leave gang (who also used to say “We hold all the cards”) evaporated eventually in the face of EU indifference. Not so easy to disentangle from the US’s position in world trade and geopolitics. But it will have to be done.

I do seriously wonder that, due to our political classes overuse of X, the current politicy point the government are taking are due largely to ignorance of public opinion. This is certainly true for Badenoch who seems totally divorced from public sentiment, perhaps the cabinet are a bit too.

So far we have rejected a Brexit reset and defence deal based, seemingly, on fishing rights. My question is, would the medium and long term goals made achievable by sacrificing this seeming ironclad, but perceptible low value red line benefit us in the long run?

Ok, I have something to say: Climate change is real, and we are going to burn if we don't stop some of our o so modern habits of quick and faster, instant gratification. Covid-19 actually was great, because it was a clear boundary to stop rushing. Believe me, curfews will be needed to save us!

Hmm. The Machiavellian move re the royal visit may be for Trump to ‘leverage’ his resentment at seeing Zelenskyy beat him to Charles by *turning down the invitation*. That level of snub might bolster Trump’s own pretensions to Kingship more than anything, as well as subjugating Starmer.

This assumes the UK is a nation that can make choices on interest rather than a decaying multi-national system that has no reason to exist if it needs the EU. The UK's "special relationship" to the US is key to the entire structure of the UK union since it was refounded in 1922.
