This is the crux of the problem the article talks about. That is Euros. It is not American dollars. People are looking at the European price and thinking it is a 1:1 conversion rate.

Typical US reaction to anything that isn't from the States
But, for EU, that price in € may very probably be the regular price for "Nintendo-AAA", as 69.99€ was the price for Zelda BOTW/TOTK and is still that price (physic from Nintendo Store, or digital in E-shop)
What's probably happened there is a historical link to how Euro and Dollar prices are the same for Nintendo. For example Xenoblade Chronicles X is listed at $59.99 and €59.99. DKC Returns and Fitness Boxing 3 are the same.
If the physical price in euros in 89.99, and the digital price is 79.99, then its safe to assume the same difference will be for the rest of the world, IE $80 digital and 90 physical tbh.
Yeah, I think it was an other someone drawing what they felt was a logical conclusion but passing it off as fact, or someone straight up misreading the currency sign.
The US prices (before the tariffs) was already listed on Nintendo's website for Mario Kart and Donkey Kong, plus retailer websites. They were $80 and $70 before any potential tariff increases.
Nintendo did historically price 1 Euro = 1 USD, but they're clearly not doing that this time.
Nintendo decides their prices as their branches believe they can get away with, just like others. BotW is supposed to be €70 in Europe according to their store, but was USD60. However, TotK was €70 and USD70. And other places do both €60 and USD60. And other platforms do €80 but then USD70.

Add China tarrifs, and it gets worse
