New perspectives
I’ve been an information architect since we were calling it information architecture. Sometimes I think there’s nothing new under the sun. And then I attend a talk that gets me to look at the same problems in a new way.

It’s not easy for me to meet new people… UNLESS I’m at the IA Conference, where I know I’m surrounded by like-minded folk. I meet at least one new person every year, and it is often the highlight of my conference.
For me, the IA Conference is like a reunion. I get to see folks I’ve known since the first one in 2000 and reconnect with former colleagues.
As a conference mostly organized by and staffed by volunteers from the IA world, it may not be as polished as other tech conferences, but it creates a strong sense of belonging. Everyone feels a responsibility for making it great.
If you know me, you know I love board games. Several years ago, the IA Conference started hosting a game night, and now it is a hallowed tradition. I always have a blast playing games with my favorite group of folks. (Don’t worry. If board games are not your thing, there’s also Karaoke.)
