If people think the ruling class failing to conserve biodiversity and supporting a safe climate is because they don’t understand the issues well enough, they are sorely, sorely mistaken…and rather naive.

Agree. They might be self-serving but they are (mostly) not stupid. Power and money are powerful drugs. Working against the best interests of your own children and grandchildren is hard to fathom. Still, Rupert and Gina ...
Thing is though, most of the people who are working against change, aren't in anything like the wealth class of the Ginas and Murdochs. Some might be wealthier than average, and that might help for a while but it won't be enough and they must know it.
It's unfathomable really.
But we, the ordinary, outnumber them, the oligarchs. We need to keep reminding them. Doesn't help when politicians enact anti-protest laws to protect their donors from embarrassment, I admit.
Yes. I met with Peter Khalil (ALP, Wills) and pretty soon realised he understood perfectly, but actually stated he would never vote contrary to his party. He actually saw this as a positive.
Thouroughly demoralising.
Will be meeting with his opponent, and organising.
The Labor party exist through spineless devotion to the party, not necessarily what is always best for society. Example, see what they did to Senator Payman.
With most people's heads looking at devices all the time you'd think some of the information on climate change would make it through but Murdoch and the fossil fuel lobbies.
When I encountered a wealthy, upper-level industry scientist-turned-administrator at a conference, I asked him why he didn't support planning for an environmentally sound future. His reply, literally: "I'm not going to be here. Why should I care?" He laughed and walked away.
The GOP/Russian party wants to kill Americans, no one should doubt that. Destroying Medicare, NIH, and firing FDA inspectors is an effort to end healthcare for workers.

"If protest was ineffective, why would they do that?"

But they eat their own young.
Our passivity is our consent.
