I had to track it down and in the 2025 budget, the rethugs want MEDICARE to pay doctors X amount for a procedure. If they charge more than X, the senior will be required to pay the difference. Of course, X is not defined anywhere. It could be $20 for all we know.

We can't ask for preventative care, though.

Fun fact, they can't refuse to treat you just because you can't afford care. They just bill you until they own everything.

Just to be clear, while this makes a good larger point it's not true. The number for Canada is MUCH smaller than the U.S. but the majority of debt held by bankrupt citizens in BOTH countries is MEDICAL debt and every year a (smaller) number of Canadians declare bankruptcy over healthcare expenses.

Think about all the stuff that's NOT covered in Canada, or insufficiently covered.

If you have a complex medical issue or a child with special needs you're paying for a LOT of that care out-of-pocket and for a lot of people it ends up being too much and they have to get out from under that debt.
