However, the difference was found to have no biological basis. The only distinction seemed to be that the "tinies" were born that way, the virus passed on within the womb from one generation to the next for who knows how long, and "shrunk people" got infected later in life.

People thought that meant that "tinies" would be given rights thanks to this discovery . . . but, instead, the opposite started to happen. Some lawmakers asserted that, if there was no difference between the tiny people that their kids kept as pets, and shrunken people . . .

it'd be a hell of a lot easier to strip rights from the several million or so people who shrank, than to give rights to the multiple billion tinies in this country that lived like bugs in the walls.

A stance that was made TREMENDOUSLY ironic when a bioterrorist started infecting rich men.
