I don't remember Obama or Biden needing these fences. I don't even Remember them during the Bush years and there were huge anti-war protests then. But Trump did during his first term as well and the entire National Mall was locked down after the assault on Congress on January 6th.

i was there. It was the entire Mall. This was gradually removed as we got closer to the inauguration and metal fences went up around congress. But in the immediate aftermath the area was blocked off for blocks stretching back towards the WH. There were agents from multiple agencies everywhere.

Were by the WH area and couldn't move any further into the Mall because blocked off everywhere and they were herding people in areas to move around. Maybe other parts were open but from POV the entire area was blocked. But you are right. It isn't worth arguing about. It was a terrible regardless.
