And it’s horrible, especially when the opposite should be true! So much good comes from a beautiful outdoor place where people can gather. We should have more not less!
This could be one of the (few?) areas where Europe is ahead of the curve compared to the US
I can at least speak for France, where practically every major city has peen pushing cars out, developing pedestrian zones, cycling lanes, and reclaiming on-street parking slots to plant trees
It's strange how we've been trying to squeeze in more cars for 50 years, never realising it doesn't work, and people who suggest going the other way get laughed out of the room...
First you get the parking
Then you get the car
Then you get the (pollution | pedestrian deaths | congestion | impediments to actual livability in a hyper-dense city)
I thought this was a different but just as bad plan. All pre-existing structures are to be replaced by some weird pre-approved structures that an establishment can then license. So it might not be parking just an ugly city approved structure coming in.
