Adding to this - pilots have a saying - three things are useless in an emergency:
- The runway behind you.
- The sky above you.
- The fuel on the ground.
It reminds you to focus on and use what you have and what you can control rather than get hung up with "if only..."

Hey, it's rough out there, remember the first rule of flying--
Secure your own mask before helping others.
If your mask is on, straps tightened? GO GET 'EM, so proud of you for helping others!!!
But if you can't find your mask in all the confusion, can't get the straps tightened?
Focus on that.
