I think it works, but not just because of the characters.

There's this thematic quality that the story has taken on. Like, feet aren't just here for fun, but more like they're the medium by which the story is told.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it's like the feet themselves tell the story.

I might be over analysing this & it means nothing, but to me seeing what looks like one twin with what looks like a silhouette shows that they're two sides of the same coin/person. Usually I think reading into something like that is a bit pretentious, however in this case it seemed slightly poetic.

It’s the little details of the chipped polish and the fact they ran out to help him without even thinking of shoes shows these two love and care for him so much.
