I honestly think it's a similar problem to folks in the generation or two behind mine genuinely believing that the system will work as intended. But I also think that people are exhausted. I know that I, for example, have been tanking emotional damage over the US political system for over a decade.

Look. I know this is a talking point, but DOGE does exist as it was hollowed out at the existing US Digital Service, which is functionally part of the Executive office of the President. It has line item budgets through EOP though OPM.

Big believer in these, and used to be president of an AFGE local. I know my successor is working hard to keep the barbarians outside the gates at my Agency.

As an IT professional whose responsibilities include system security, keeping them out will require more than just unions.
