This is a great demonstration of how the tech bros simply script US foreign policy. The positions reflected here by Marco Rubio have nothing to do with the interests of the US people, but everything to do with Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.

The logic escapes me - this is an invitation to enforce social media regulation outside of the US with this having the singular effect of markedly reducing US platform access and value. Itβs an own goal.
That bit about the platforms not having to comply with global content moderation laws, they don't have to today. They'll just have to cease operating in those countries. Or they can have a US-only version that doesn't comply with those other laws/policies. But either way will cost them a lot.
Yes, the second part is the most important. This is really about moderation policies for big tech. X and Facebook are very exposed here.
I think it refers specifically to the EU because China, Russia and others already block such sites and are not going to change because of threats from rubio.
This sounds like a reason/excuse for other countries to ban US tech platforms. You can't sell illegal goods that break another countries laws, the same should apply for the platforms. This sounds great. Get others to develop their own legal platforms & get my family off of Fuckerberg's platforms.
