It’s so fun to play it’s got me hooked (just don’t die 💀). There’s something satisfyingly visceral about the sound of the bullet impacts too, just the right amount of low end 🤘

best I can offer is set up a few autofire buttons. 10hz is pretty good for most situations but have a 30hz one so you can kill big enemies & bosses by point blanking them in like half a second

And ignore weapon changers until it's 100% safe if you already have the one you want. They do nothing

Much appreciated, need all the advice I can get. I’ve got those two autofires set up, I just need to keep reminding myself to use 10hz for better distribution. The weapon changers are a tricky one, so hard to ignore, in fact you’ve gotta watch em & actively ignore em too. Good job it’s a fun game.

Yeah, we were playing Twin Cobra in the recent Yolympics & whilst that game was an 11/10 genre defining masterpiece when it came out, it is in fact 'a bit shit' once you've played the proper version of the game with checkpoints & no limit on your shot rate

Recovery in classic shmups is such a sticking point for me. I still see something as hard as a cave 2-all being “fair”, but a classic shmup that is nigh impossible after a single death is bad difficulty imo. Most I can handle is something like thunder force 4 where you lose one type of weapon.

Yeah, I ended up no missing hishousame simply because I could not recover from death. I don’t think it’ll be possible with this one though, with the extra length and difficulty. I might have to practice a few respawn spots…

weirdly it is designed for restarts & does alter rank, enemy & power up carrier spawns as a result. They're all manageable, of course it's a lot better to just not die though

A million times better than Twin Cobra where you just insta-respawn with no power & can be ages from the next power up item

Yeah it's weird that some people think US versions where you continue on the spot are easier? They are only if you credit feed your way, but it's very obvious when you play the JP version that the respawns were carefully designed to let you get back in the action.

everyone loved Twin Cobra when it was new (& rightly so, it's still great) but once you'd played the Jp MD & PCE ports & years later the PS1 port, you could see how much better balanced the Jp game was

It's now just the worst version of a great game. And the shot limit it forces on you is 🤦‍♂️

But @scowsh.bsky.social is playing the JP original version 🤔 it's the M2 port on Switch. It also includes the PCE and MD versions, but I'm not sure that it includes the US arcade version.

I remember on the PCE one I would die on some base boss about 4 or 5 levels in, and I never figured out how to recover from there.
