In the long run, if there even is one, productive relation can be rekindled, but trust requires stability and assurance of safety, neither of which can be promised by a country in which a few swing states by a couple of thousand votes dictate whether we head to WW3 or peace.

My fear is that now there has been precedence, there will be more of this type of behaviour. And it will be escalated, since there is little pushback from either the people or the leaders.
