This is how a lot of non profit/government based research organizations operate. Discoveries are licensed back to the employees who spin off a company and share profits with the original organization.

It's not really "for once." And NIH personnel making money off privatization is a hindrance to creating non-exclusive licenses and public options, because that takes money out of their pockets.

I hear you, but there are real problems from government capture on this. Also the big firms ALSO benefit; usually what happens is the license holder sells it up the chain, to a private equity firm and then a company with the resources to commercialize the drug
