The fact that both Microsoft and Google pulled this “can’t disable AI features” stunt at the same time suggests a) coordination and b) a desperate attempt to get people using it. (Apple enabling Intelligence by default in .3 also qualifies)

Probably proton or something similar. Switching email is a hassle but I’ll probably just take care of the big accounts & then slowly move anything leftover as it pops up. I’m also probably separating things out into a few different accounts, just to make tracking my online activity a little harder.

By using a password manager this process was made so much easier for me, since all of my accounts were in a single searchable database. You probably already use one, but I wanted to suggest that if you don't already.

Most old-school VPSes provide email hosting and offer good deals. I'm with x10hosting and they charge $142 for 3yrs, which works out to only $47.33/yr. Compare this to Proton which is $120/yr. + with a VPS you get more control, the best feature is you can create unlimited email addresses ...

... so you can have one account per service. Maybe even pair this with a service like Firefox Relay for better spam control (Relay has some nifty features like blocking spam even before it reaches your actual mailbox, and of course, handy browser integration).

I built my first Linux Mint machine last summer, and it’s been great. Stable, reliable, easy to use, and fast. I hope your experience goes well. They’ve done a really nice job making things easy and feature-filled.
