Nandy claims it’s very much a question of mutual interest but I’m less sure (or at least would want to see evidence) and wonder if these aren’t just comforting soundbites for a domestic audience. Ruling out free movement of labour while demanding it for one sector is puzzling to say the least.

Difficult to see the mutual interest here.

UK bands had a clear advantage earlier…now they don’t.

The big acts will continue to visit the EU but the smaller ones will be substituted by EU acts.

When it comes to support staff, EU citizens now take the jobs also on UK/US bands when touring the EU.

Yeah, that’s pretty much my view too. The UK wrecked its own comparative advantage, regrets it but fails to see that the labour force within the internal market has plugged the gap and will now defend itself against external competition. I fear another rude awakening may await another UK government.

I agree. On top of that, EU musicians are already struggling to earn a living. Non English-language music in particular has long suffered from Anglo-cultural dominance. The EU should protect its unique cultural diversity and not open the door wide to British musicians.

My hope was that, confronted with the mismatch between their wish list and their red lines, something would give. I’m not optimistic as Labour seems to have fallen prey to the same magical thinking that afflicted the Tories in office but perhaps reality will become too much for them to ignore.
