Worked for over 30 years in and around the EU institutions. Weary of the Brexit lies our politicians still spout. No party affiliation but proud European Movement member. Follow back genuine #FBPE and pro-EU accounts based in UK and rest of Europe. šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¬šŸ‡§šŸ‡®šŸ‡Ŗ

In 2019 Nigel Farage's Brexit Party voted against plans to tackle Russian propaganda, calling claims of Russian interference "scare stories" One of his MEPs was Nathan Gill, who has just been accused in court of taking bribes in exchange for defending Russia in the European Parliament

Remember that Anglosphere tosh peddled by obsessives like Daniel Hannan as our post-Brexit future? Now in tatters. The last nostalgic gasp of right-wingers who thought the English-speaking world had a unique sense of liberty that would prevent us ever falling prey to extremism.

On the 3rd anniversary of Russiaā€™s brutal invasion, Europe is in Kyiv. We are in Kyiv today, because Ukraine is Europe. In this fight for survival, it is not only the destiny of Ukraine that is at stake. Itā€™s Europeā€™s destiny.

Usefully sober fact sheet on Ukraine. Please share with those who need it. understandingwar.org/backgrounder...

Eurostar felt compelled to axe certain routes to the Continent as a result of the capacity limitations caused by post-Brexit checks and queues. Unless St Pancras is substantially remodelled, I canā€™t see how theyā€™ll find the room. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Ever wondered why you can sign up for broadband online without any human interaction but you can't cancel a contract without calling the provider? Well I asked the VP for Consumer at @virginmediaireland.bsky.social LISTEN: www.newstalk.com/podcasts/bre...

Far-sightedness or bowing to the inevitable give-and-take of negotiations? Maybe it doesnā€™t matter either way but why on Earth did Labour spend months mis-selling the time- and visa-limited proposal as free movement when it was always something more modest? eastangliabylines.co.uk/news/brexit/...

The UK wonā€™t act as a bridge between Europe and the US, Mr Lammy. It forfeited that role with Brexit and has nothing to offer. Europe doesnā€™t trust London or need you to tell it what it already knows: that it canā€™t depend on a country led by Trump and must pay more to defend itself. Pick a side.

These loons have all the free speech they want. Their people are in power in the US and wreaking havoc. X is run by one of them while Facebook and Google genuflect before them. And still itā€™s not enough. Still thereā€™s some malign Ć©lite stifling their liberty. www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...

Has any modern country which prided itself on embodying such high-minded ideals of democracy and freedom fallen as scarily as the USA?

Niall Ferguson called those who called out Trump pre election as suffering from "Trump Derangement Syndrome"

The same Johnson who wasted no opportunity to grandstand in Kyiv with Zelenskyy now asking us to try to understand Trumpā€™s thinking? Surely not.

At todayā€™s meeting with the EU Ambassador and UK Ambassadors of EU Member States, I reiterated the vital importance of Europe and the EU to London. I reaffirmed our capitalā€™s desire not just to maintain, but to build upon our positive relationship.

Theory: Trumpā€™s frontal cortex has completely atrophied. Heā€™s got no editor so just says whatever crazy shit comes to mind (bleach for Covid, tariffs, Greenland, Gaza). Then his cult have to pretend itā€™s a coherent plan, and then his minions have to find a way of walking back.

What is it with these shit-and-run Brexiters? The patriotism which they claim to be their driving force seems to melt the minute the outcomes they predicted donā€™t materialize because they were fantasies in the first place.

Sorry UK, I'm all for deeper UK-EU security cooperation at this moment, but forget about this bridge illusion. The EU will speak for itself. And you cannot pretend to speak 'for Europe' and at the same meeting call for tariff carve outs playing on being 'not Europe'. From: on.ft.com/4gLuvnQ

I do wonder if Farageā€™s long-standing and furious opposition to the idea of a European army might soon come back to bite him on the arse.

We view President Trump's proposed "reciprocalā€ trade policy as a step in the wrong direction. The EU will react firmly and immediately against unjustified barriers to free and fair trade. We will always protect European businesses, workers, and consumers from unjustified tariff measures.

Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Europe stands with you for a just and lasting peace, with strong security guarantees. We will keep providing continued and stable support to Ukraine. And speed up work on your EU accession. Joint read-out with @eucopresident.consilium.europa.eu ā†“ europa.eu/!MfPPPC

We need a surge in šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡ŗ defence spending. Europe must bring more to the table. I will propose to activate the escape clause for defence investments. It will allow Member States to substantially increase their defence expenditure, in a controlled and conditional way.

Remember when Brexiters screamed witlessly about the imminent danger of a European army which never existed? The idea is starting to look positively comforting.

Nicola Sturgeon speaks out! They sold themselves out with their support for Brexit and many still donā€™t seem to understand that continued access to Continental markets for the produce they catch will require the UK to safeguard a level of fishing access for EU boats. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Dear Justin, itā€™s a pleasure to see you in Brussels. Canada is one of our most trusted allies. Our partnership is strong and thriving. We are ready to take it even further. ā†’ europa.eu/!VkrXJm

Telling the voters that Farage is right and immigration is the most important policy area is a really stupid idea. They have now put the battle onto Farage's home turf and there is only one winner from that.

Word of the day is ā€˜arsleā€™ (19th century): to have a distinct sense of going backwards.

Egregiously nasty, yes, but Labourā€™s nativist pivot isnā€™t new. They decided a while ago to pander to the world view of Red-Wall Brexiters and bank on the lack of viable electoral alternatives for urban progressives, whose vote they thought they could take for granted.

Posting footage of deportations impresses no one. Reform voters donā€™t think itā€™s enough hatred and the rest of us turn away from yet more performative cruelty. The Labour vote disintegrates. If Labour canā€™t decide who it should be talking and listening to, then it ends up without an audience.
