They do not have enough of the required minerals that need to be added to make aluminum in US. that’s part of the obsession with taking over Canada. Not feasible to make aluminum domestically in US.

It takes an enormous amount of power, which is why it's made here. The smelter in BC has its own hydro plant. The bauxite (raw material) comes from South American.

I got impression that 47 doesn’t really want domestic manufacturing. That he would rather collect the tariffs from his citizens to line his pockets than build plants.

I don't think he's thought it through at all. I'm surprised the US lobbyists aren't setting him straight, because a 25% increase in what they pay is huge. They need our stuff as much or more as we need theirs, and invasion and winning a war isn't going to be a short term solution.

That was my thought that so much of this is being done bassackwards as performative and not with planning. I would support the strengthening of major industries but not in this way. Same with USAID. Did they coordinate with the farmers before slashing the programs that utilized US wheat and grain?
