i can't manage to tell any story in a single episode because i am too easily distracted by terrible little tangents like accidentally discovering a hungarian war criminal starting a militia in new jersey in the 60s

Tbh I was shocked at actual academics being on that riverboat cruise. Were their bosses just cool with that? I need to know.
it’s wild how many professors are going to racism conferences
And this is why I adore you and your show!!
Curtis Maynard?! Getting flashbacks here.
Where I come from we call this a "Whoopsie-doodle"
You can really pack in those weird little guys in NJ.

what a strange tidbit!
To be fair that's pretty distracting.
For real? Where? New Brunswick? If so our terrible little tangents have crossed paths.
One trend I see in story-based podcasts is the evolution from one episode subjects to "this month we're talking about..." I think it means you're getting better at all of it!
I don't know why I like a podcast about Nazis so much.
Just recently subscribed to this one and I enjoy it as well!
it's a hard listen in a world full of news about fascists in our present day, but i think there may be some comfort in hearing the stories of the ones whose stories are already over because they lost
You also have a very soothing way of talking about it. You don't diminish how awful these guys are, or the damage they've done, but you are good at putting the pieces together and pointing out the sheer absurdity of their nonsense.
Who of us has not tried to decipher Romanian court documents?
cc: @colborne.bsky.social
it was my first time 😂
hey Romania’s court doc system wasn’t nearly as messy as I thought. better than PACER
At some point I bet we’ll see Molly transition from apologizing for tangents to fully embracing “I do what I want deal with it” because it is her podcast after all.
Weird little guys: side quests
Weird Little Guys: Side Quests - Nights
This is the way
The side quests are for paying subscribers.
And that's why your podcast is my favorite. We get to follow down the rabbit hole
I love this about the show! So many weird little guys to discover out there!
This podcast feels like snap judgement but oops all nazis, and I love tangents. Please keep following them- they're fascinating to hear about.
Your tangents make total sense in unveiling the myth of the lone wolf, or lone wolves. Ok, packs of interconnected lone wolves acting alone, closely together in packs.
uhhhh i only listen to the normal bits about these weird little guys, not the weird bits. unsubscribed
because they're all sailing their little boats around in the same tiny toilet for so many years they all bump into each other and there is no way to tell one story without telling ten
The cognitive dissonance of "this is amazing, I'm so glad to learn about this" and "what the heck does this have to do with the rest of the episode again?" coexisting in my mind to equal measure was... an experience, to be sure
it’s non linear storytelling, i’m just on an adventure
It reminds me that I need to pay closer attention. It's like reading a Pynchon novel
*(~28 minutes in) I think you underestimate the TAMU history dept willingness to platform David Irving. There were a few professors into 2008 that unironically refered to the civil war as Northern Aggression, and at least one was a holocaust denier in early 2000s. I wish I remembered names
Wouldn't have it any other way! To both you and the podcast.
My scattered brain always wants to know more and the tangents often help me remember the main story/case, too!
❗️
This is why we come to listen. Don't ever change.
Same!
I had my own distraction when you mentioned Riefenstahl. Still baffled by this 21 years later. Really weird behavior.
I really love your tangents--the terrible ones are useful and illustrative, but I've been carrying the tangents about the gay bar and the history of workplace affinity groups around in my heart these past weeks, a few of the little candles against despair 💜
The tangents add a lot of character to the podcast. Also as your content accumulates, the tangents weave all of the stories together as themes.
That's why your podcast Weird Little Tangents That End Up Being About Guys is my favorite!
You will let us know if you hear anything about the Hungarian war criminal right? That was a fascinating tangent.
I am sooooo here for all the "terrible little tangents".
i love how you tell the stories though so i dont even mind! :D
The tangents are just about the best part, along with all the everything else
