Absolutely important to keep talking about how overwhelmingly white and male the industry is— but I mean in a broader cultural sense, like why orchestras exist at all and receive government funding, when most people don’t listen to classical music outside of cinema

OK, it's a relief to see that your article *doesn't* show this overlap is "quite high" but that there are "a number of powerful exceptions" to the rule of board members donating either to Dems or moderate Rs or both. Would like to see stats showing how rare these powerful exceptions actually are.

I wasn't doing this to dunk on you but because a number of the online reactions assume (jadedly, cynically) that of course all the fancy board directors are MAGA supporters. It's important for many reasons (artistic and political) that that's not the takeway insight from this piece.
