Mind you, the voice actors who were replaced on Zenless Zone Zero never said anything against Hoyoverse. They were just holding the line.

Yet the Fandom is cheering for their recast anyway.

What I don't understand but would be more than willing to have someone explain to me is how come the VAs can't just strike exclusively companies that don't have AI protection agreements / union pay rates. Why is it all or nothing? From my understanding hoyo offers those but is being struck anyway.

As Kuriboh noted, Hoyo’s not offering it, but to the larger question, the union strikes the whole contract, not any one company. The contract covers all VG work, so all VG work is affected.

If Hoyo made a cartoon, for instance, and did it union, the cartoon wouldn’t be struck despite who made it.

It sounds like there's conflicting information online then, as the studio hoyo uses to hire English talent put out an official notice elaborating that they do offer AI protections, are they lying or is there a loophole of some kind that makes in inadequate then? Not sure what to believe.

A third-party entity like a studio can offer whatever it wants, and the most that would mean is the third-party entity wouldn’t use your voice data for AI.

If Hoyo won’t sign anything that says they won’t offer similar protections, then Hoyo’s not making the same offer. That’s how contracts work.

For example, the studio you’re referencing is only working on one Hoyo project - namely ZZZ

The other projects are at different studios, one of which certainly does not offer even the basic AI protections.

It's confusing to follow because most of what's happening is behind closed doors. There's no real reason for it to be public information. Strikes aren't a spectator sport.

Having said that, I do think more transparency would be helpful generally.

P.S. This obviously precludes any VG work done under a different contract, like an interim or tiered agreement during the strike, or if any one company negotiated its own contract.
