Thank you for this! I’m trying so hard to find that balance between staying informed and hopelessness as well as helping/fighting for our rights and needing to rest/fight the guilt of resting. It’s exhausting, but I appreciate this advice!

Our community just needs to turn insular and go underground. Work to throw a wrench in their works when and where we can and try to get them booted from office to get the right people in. Then we come back out to set things right and let there be a reckoning.

First, curate your feed. Do not follow people that stoke panic. Stay informed but avoid the people that repeat phrases like “We’re fucked.” Even if they are a good source of info, your anxiety will be so much worse reading their posts. 2/5

Find local community. Find people that are doing good work and join them. Whatever your calling may be, find it. I work in food sovereignty and adore my comrades that I’ve met through it. Some people find solace through activism. Some in community defense. There’s a place for everyone. 3/5

You don’t have to be a go-to source for information. Existing as trans is hard work. You don’t have to constantly traumatize yourself by reading every bit of awful news coming out of the Whitehouse. Take care of your health, physical and mental. Ask for help when shit gets too hard. 4/5

Finally, remember that we WILL get through this together. We have been fighting for a long time and we have resources we will continue to build. Feeling so lost dealing w both Iowa, Trump, while my hands are consistently tied as a parent. We were just making progress and now... but I hold onto hope that we'll get through w time... and I won't give up fighting. Thank you for your light 🙏

In red states especially, community is so crucial. We are still making progress, even if it doesn’t feel like it. The law and government may be going backwards, but we will move forward and thrive without them. Find your people if you haven’t already. You aren’t alone in feeling lost.
