I'd even go as far to as to throw out the word 'trained' because a theft algorithm doesn't 'learn'...it steals, amalgamates, and plops the still steaming loaf of its combined efforts onto the virtual ground. Nothing was 'created', it wasn't inspired...it was the sum of averages.

My biggest complaint about it is that focusing on these artifacts are likely to be obsolete soon. Like the hands for visual GenAI. It’ll be solved eventually.

I still think they’re doing the right thing not allowing GenAI. It’s not the place for that.

yeah it's a moving target for sure, which is unfortunate. i think a lot of people are not even aware genAI music has spread far and wide like an ink stain on the streaming internet. no idea what the long term fix will be

Suno's been out for well over a year now and I recently saw them touting their v4 model which still sounds virtually the same. Just like AI images I believe once these models hit critical mass in quality they quickly plateau from there.

That's true, but every once in a while there's an advancement in the underlying technology (say, latent space instead of diffusion for images) and once it gets into the mainstream, the AI "products" have a jump in quality.

Good read, though to me the easier way would be to avoid Newgrounds all together. Most of the stuff on there these days seems a bit cringy these days. Mostly as it seems like a endless stream of things that are knock offs of more popular stuff.

i swear it's so noticable if you hear 5 of them they are all The Same in this weird way. tinny, warbly granular-y delay/reverb (it actually sounds kiiiinda cool but it's because they don't know what music is lol), horrid high end, "not quite anything" instruments (bass, lead especially)... etc etc

Suno also really, really likes ending melodic phrases with those 16th note pentatonic movements. It does this across practically every genre that "allows" for it. Alongside a couple of other obvious tells in timbre it seems to be a habit it always falls back on.

Thanks for this! I know this is separate, but my youtube feeds have been packed with Gen AI music channels, most of which don't have a label which is getting very frustrating to go in review and block.
