I said it before but the big thing in Krakoa that was missing for me that I like in X-Men is the new weirdo kids one or more of the X-Men find and take under their wing(s). I got like 7 of them now and they’re all fun so far lol

The emphasis on a smaller cast allows for a lot of really fleshed out dynamics, cause of course Emma wants the kids to be trained to defend themselves. She witnessed two genocides of mutants. She is not ready to lose any more.

One thing i absolutely adore is the fourth wall breaks where each of the main characters get to talk with the reader with how they’re feeling. It reminds me so much of theater monologues, its so seamless too.

Genuinely cannot fathom how some people hate this run, feels like a necessary kind of book X-Men hasn't had in a hot minute (a grounded and low stakes book about new mutants).
Like, fuck, when was the last time it felt like the X-gang could just...exist in the world and do normal stuff?

I think the last X-Book about young new mutants having classic low stakes problems instead of constantly getting murdered was probably New X-Men (vol.2) in 2004. I think it's impossible to overstate how fucked up the young mutant ecosystem got after 2012

Generation Hope is the closest we ever got to a young mutant book, but the circumstances didn't ever really let us see them do much more then missions and training. Wolverine and the X-Men is closer, but they never really can do much in a more "normal" setting...

I like her but I feel like her existence holds a lot more weight then any next gen character should reasonably have to carry…but then her part was done, and suddenly she’s got almost no way to command attention. She tried her best, I appreciate her and hope she isn’t gone forever.

I always struggled to see Wolverine and The X-Men as a young mutant book because by all accounts it is, but there's just too much Wolverine in it. Which makes sense because of the name of the book but it runs counter to what the book should be doing you know?
