if the driver doesn’t match the size of the screw head down to the planck length even a mouse could round out a phillips head. it also doesn’t help that they are made of stainless steel as soft as butter
Phillips was popularized during WW2 in manufacturing settings BECAUSE it'd strip a screw when over-tightened, instead of breaking the driver bit & slowing down the assembly line.
If you want a no-slip handheld driver, you're better off with a Rogers (square) tip, which remains popular in Canada.
