See with ZZZ cutting back the TVs you could at least argue that it's a younger, less experienced team trying something very different from the rest of the space. It's still cowardly, but like, I guess I get how they got where they are.
Like I get that trash mobs are something you can very easily autobattle through or whatever but like...Acheron felt like a good way to address stuff like that if you want that without cutting it wholesale, and like, if you really *must* cut battles, surely then...
The thinking should be "well the dungeons should be more interesting and varied to navigate, maybe we up the puzzles to compensate for that" but instead it's just...it's nothing, every path is just a path. Even ZZZ was like "OK well we'll put some minigames and puzzles in the action stages now"
(and no part of this is me trying to puff up ZZZ by comparison, it's just nuts that *that* somehow feels like it thought out a contingency plan better than this)
yea the tv mode being only no longer added instead of completely removed is a good thing, i didn't mind tv mode but it felt like most of them were overtutorialised and slow
Wait, are they removing gameplay from old content? I haven't had time to start this game yet. I don't want gameplay removed before I have time to play :(
the new 3.0 story dungeons are going to have number of enemies reduced and puzzles adjusted to not be part of the main scenario, yeah. Don't think they're going to bother going back and editing the 1.X, 2.X stuff though.
constantly thinking about how they just ripped the whole plotline with Dan Shu out of the main story in the Luofu for similar reasons like. it's so boneheaded.
I played Xianzhou after the removal and it's weird bc when you get to the point where'd you progress past the quest they throw a warning like "WARNING: IF YOU PROGRESS NOW YOU'LL COMPLETLY LOCK YOU OUT OF THESE QUESTS", so they're technically optional but they REALLY want you to know you'll miss out
I hate to look down at any section of video games and say "oh those aren't REAL video games" bc generally gatekeeping sucks but the more I see of gacha games the more I wanna say they aren't real games bc they seem to deemphasize you actually playing them, which is what a game should be about
so, these games aren't naturally this way, but they go cause a lot of their players to complain about having to play the game, so yeah a lot of them fall into this task of listening to the players and taking the game out in the name QoL
that said being a premium game doesn't make a game immune to this after the director of Dragon's Dogma 2 left Capcom they really quickly patched the game to smooth out a lot of the rough edges and personality of the game in the game of making it easier and more approachable, lol
I feel like games only are gacha if they specifically want to chase more money than they would otherwise by having paid dlcs or whatever, so therefore creative intent takes a backseat to whatever gets people to spend more money on rolls
I feel with Hoyo specifically, this "too much gameplay" issue stems from a good chunk of their fanbase playing multiple of their games simultaneously, all of which have their own limited time events/rewards. They have a magic in making attractive looking games, but it's starting to work against them
Instead of removing gameplay in the main story mission, maybe they could make it reward you with enough resources to like max out one character, but no we have separate limited time events dedicated for the grinding to secure another week of playtime

With this it's like...excuse me???
(yes I deleted and re-posted to fix a single typo. this is how I roll)
removing the "video game" parts from your video game has to be a collosal fuck up, holy shit
