Meanwhile people who don’t have good insurance but desperately need to be in a psychiatric hospital can’t even get in. I hate the state of healthcare in this country.
(Yes, I am being horrible. This is how capitalism works.)
The concept of profit-driven healthcare is an abject disaster and somehow mandated by the national religion of laissez-faire capitalism.
They insisted we had to buy some expensive gadgets before I could go (that we could get cheaper elsewhere,) we had to fight ‘em to get out
1) Mental health holds are legal kidnappings. Making something legal doesnt change what it is.
2) Many alive and thriving peole today wouldnt be without 5150 holds, for example.
If 2) becomes harder to implement because someone abused 1) for profit, they should go to jail.
Being sent to a mental institution against one's will makes impossible to buy a gun and also to keep those already purchased
.
If a person voluntarily asks to be interned, nothing happens

PSA: you can request your therapist's notes AT ANY TIME. That's why we write them assuming the client might read them, or just read them to the client in session!
I cannot recommend getting a mental health advance directive enough. It's easy to fill out and gives you more control over your care. https://mhapa.org/index.php/mental-health-advanced-directives/
