I was thinking about him not too long ago when all those weirdos were suggesting that liberals somehow controlled the weather. I think he would have found that very amusing, especially considering how his beloved brother was on the team that invented cloud seeding.
he’s the first author i read when i was like 14-15 growing up in Mississippi that let me know i actually was not insane; i got nothing but love for brother kurt
Just thinking of the David Lynch stuff today and I think they are very similar in being wholesome Midwestern guys that can utterly devastate or enlighten you with an incredibly simple set of words and see the world as it is.
"And it should be fun. In work and in life, we’re all supposed to get along. We’re supposed to have so much fun, like puppy dogs with our tails wagging. It’s supposed to be great living; it’s supposed to be fantastic."
Lynch, Vonnegut, and others like them are people with a specific frame of mind that are filled to the brim with a story or an image and will find anyway to spill it all out in front of you. It doesn’t always make sense the first time around, but it makes damn sure to bring the intent to the front.
Best quote from a guy filled with good ones. This and the one from the first chapter of slaughterhouse: And I asked myself about the present: how wide it was, how deep it was, how much was mine to keep.
I came to Sirens of Titan pretty late in my Vonnegut reading, because I largely hadn't heard much about it. It quickly became my favorite of his entire catalog.
