Do you think this story was setting up Chandra and Nissa to become Loot's new parents in the future? Chandra seems attached to the little guy, and he could help fix the Nissa Zendikar issue in a way that they could all work together on, instead of Chandra ignoring her wishes. It certainly looks that way, or at least its to add more emotional heft when Jace ultimately ends up sacrificing Loot or some such betrayal.
I kinda hope Loot has some hero turn where his species is revealed to be an incubation stage for another form and he becomes too powerful for Jace/Vraska
