The only reason I believe the numbers is that states haven't had a huge amount of unemployment claims yet, and because Trump/Musk need lower interest rates because they're so strung out in debt.

I was researching the same yesterday. My best guess is when they had to rehire federal employees, some of the applicants may have withdrawn their unemployment claim? But we do not have real numbers based on real data anymore. Truth is a thing of the past.
Don't be like that. The states department of labor report weekly unemployment numbers to USDoL, and those weekly totals are reported in aggregate in the monthly reports.

The buy-out made it easy to conceal the real numbers. If you took the buy-out, you cannot file for unemployment, despite being unemployed. The report said federal employment only dropped by 15,000. Yet, over 80,000 were laid off just at the VA alone. They're only counting those on unemployment.
Do you mean that they can never file for unemployment or that they cannot file until their severance stops being paid? Will they ever show up as unemployed?
They won't show up as unemployed because they will completely detach from the labor market. Unemployment Insurance only reports initial claim filings each week combined with continued claims for weekly benefits. They won't show up because there is no place to count them.
It depends. If you accept a severance, you're technically not laid-off unless the agreement states you were. These weren't. They were given a choice. Severance or lay-off. They also used the language "poor performance". That's considered "for cause".

Could the mass deportations/fear mongering of this administration have created job openings that are oftentimes filled by undocumented workers?
Some of the bigger job gains were in nursing/residential care and couriers/messengers. If so, this bump wont last for long.
I always thought if he went ahead with the mass deportations, he would either rely on red states using child labor, inmates, and the unhoused.
Then if that didn't work, he'd just throw the undocumented in "camps" and use them for totally free labor.
