There's been *multiple* Indigenous men/masc (who aren't Indigenous to this place), who've taken up space (and jobs), refuse to listen to local Indigenous people (and those who prioritize them), treat Indigenous women poorly, and dismiss the hard work done by Indigenous people who came before them 2/

When they are either asked to leave, or they can't handle the pressure of being accountable, they just walk away and leave others to clean up their destruction in their wake.

It's disheartening and a bit soul-crushing. Racism, pretendianism, those are frustrating, but this feels like betrayal. /3

I've seen this in academia and in other contexts. We hosted a ceremony for the unveiling of a refurbished welcome figure. It celebrated the artists who did the work. It was a moment of Salish celebration. Some "Lakota" literally had a megaphone to insert his statement about enviro impact of LNG.

Yes, I've seen similar things in other very similar contexts, too!

I think academia sticks out for me because there's the issue of being in a position of authority on knowledge & truth.

There's also a kind of comradery in dealing with institutional racism, so it hits hard when that's betrayed.
