Gotta get all those roads cleaned so vehicles can cause more damage and cost more tax dollars. I get why, I really do. There is some level of veto authority going on. But the power of pedestrianship is so powerful. They spend more money, they visit more, they visit more businesses with less impact.
They’re making the best of an extreme situation. There’s too much snow to just plow it around, so they actually have to remove it and truck it out of the city. I understand, focusing on emergency and bus routes first
Are they plowing to the right or windrowing? Overnight scoop and clear might be the best solution on these roads instead of right plowing and covering any exits from houses or the ability to walk to transit.
75cm of snow across four days. They mostly gave up plowing (no place it put it, sidewalk plows often couldn't even make it through). They've since been focusing on snow removal like this, although it's taking many more passes of each street with the blower than is typical.
In didn't grab a photo because I was driving but the bike paths on my local main street (Montreal Rd) are cleared to bare pavement again! Actually a few days quicker than I was expecting. Great news for my bike ride to work on Monday
I’d be scared going on/sharing the road in these conditions. A) for potentially slipping in the slush and getting run over and B) a car might be sliding around if they try to accelerate too quickly
