This aerial shot was Rue Villeray, close to Parc Jarry. Here’s what it looked like on the ground (further east).

“But even some of Canada’s allies don’t seem to get how insulted many Canadians feel in this moment.” youtu.be/0agsIcGmIbs?...

Canada is a sovereign nation & it's not cute/fun to banter about theoretical ideas about overthrowing their government/ "making" them join the US. They do not want to join the states! I sincerely love our northern neighbo(u)rs & am in solidarity for their right to self-governance & shared wellbeing

The streets of Montreal are still chaotic! Normally there’s a bike lane under here somewhere. Quelqu’un peut deviner quelle rue?

Almost a week after the second storm, it almost doesn’t feel like walking in a city. Residential streets involve walking on one or two feet of packed, winding, uneven snow.

Build housing. Build infrastructure. Build stronger relationships with friendly countries.

I continue to believe that urbanism is not inherently partisan, which is why it’s so sad that the culture wars have melted people’s brains enough to polarize against things as obviously good as active transportation.

Smart @alonlevy.bsky.social post on why building code reform is important, but zoning reform is more urgent for getting family size apartments. Seattle allows six-story single-stair buildings, but they’re mostly full of studios: pedestrianobservations.com/2025/02/21/y...

Bikes are a much more enjoyable topic than threats to my country: youtu.be/BvOoTvmt6_c

With the other side still buried in snow, the northbound lane of Montreal’s Saint-Denis REV is carrying cyclists in both directions.

I post alot of my youtube work here on bsky because it seems there are so many people who enjoy urban cycling. I love looking back at this video. Im far from an urbanist. Although I dont really know the attributes of being one. I'm Car Free Light, a bike commuter with 1 car.

1. Construction jobs 2. Demand for materials 3. Allowing people to live closer to jobs, transit, etc. Build the homes, protect the economy.

“He’s just trolling! Can’t take a joke?” … a “joke” he’s repeated for months, backed up by staff, and tied to economic threats that have already harmed our economy. Brought to you by the same people who insisted Russia wouldn’t invade Ukraine (but now think Ukraine needs to surrender to Russia).

This Boston station does much better than some of the other coverage in the US (in acknowledging the gravity of the situation and who is at fault) but it’s funny that they end by calling Trudeau the “Premier” instead of Prime Minister. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS_n...

The REV Saint-Denis is recording days with literally zero cyclists because it's totally impassable*—yet people are still complaining that bike lanes get cleared before roads and sidewalks! (*I’m not complaining. Extraordinary circumstances and all.)

“February’s snowfall also marks the first time snow removal has been required in Toronto since March 2023.” Interesting! I wonder how much equipment (e.g., snow blowers) they have relative to Montreal given the less frequent need for removal of snow. www.ctvnews.ca/weather/arti...

Every daycare in Montreal has a lot of sleds outside it these days.

Getting some totally normal and sane comments on this video

The quantity of snow is enormous. The snow blowers have to make multiple passes on each road to collect it all. The city is estimating more than $50 million for the whole snow operation. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Cannot understate how much I would rather be thinking about bikes, housing reform, and snow maintenance policy than this

Here’s a fun seasonal montage from Parc Jeanne-Mance in Montreal, showing a lively summer turning into a crisp fall, then into a snow-blanketed winter.

Just a class act, fantastic video youtu.be/MBgXMLC3djc?...
