Lots of people are just taking the northbound lanes in the wrong direction to get south like this (although it's no longer necessary in the Plateau, it's just Jean-Talon to Boul. Rosemont I believe)

The east and west sides are in the same borough (Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie), but the street is only like that in this borough. (It's hard to see on this map but it's blue on the left of Saint-Denis for uncleared and green on the right for cleared.) Not sure if there's a particular reason.

I am mistaken about Toronto? I live in Montreal and am talking about Montreal.

Honestly as frustrating as it is, I don't really see it as a failure from the city. It's just too much snow to plow around, there's nowhere to put it. We just need to wait for the snow removal process to cover everywhere

75cm of snow across four days. They mostly gave up plowing (no place it put it, sidewalk plows often couldn't even make it through). They've since been focusing on snow removal like this, although it's taking many more passes of each street with the blower than is typical.

They’re making the best of an extreme situation. There’s too much snow to just plow it around, so they actually have to remove it and truck it out of the city. I understand, focusing on emergency and bus routes first

This level of snow is extreme even for here. In normal times the sidewalks would be plowed, but this is too much for them to handle at the moment

Primary roads have generally been cleared

Is almost the rest of the world outside of the US/Canada too libertarian? Do they need to adopt superior American/Canadian building codes and mandate two stairs?

It's wonderful to watch

Then it gets better as both directions are open. (Yes, squeaky bike. It’s bike share: very convenient in winter.)

Oh my God I see it now, this is like high school

It's strange because normally I'd group together Rosemont-LPP and the Plateau as being the most bike-friendly parts of the city (based on cycling data and infrastructure), so I don't know why they'd deprioritize it like that

Provinces have premiers: Premier François Legault, Premier Doug Ford, etc. The country has a prime minister: PM Justin Trudeau, former PM Stephen Harper, etc. (Except in French, where the equivalent of prime minister is used for both.)

I know you've had a worse experience in Rosemont, but in the Plateau I have shots of bike paths plowed during the first storm, afterwards, and during the second storm (like this one). It's only later in the second storm that they stopped trying I think.

They considered it for the revamp of Sainte-Catherine downtown but didn’t end up doing it, in part due to cost: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

It happens half a dozen times per winter here. It's really fascinating to watch. It's how we get scenes like this: bsky.app/profile/ohth...

Snow removal like this (different from snow plowing)? I don't remember seeing this when I lived in Toronto, although I didn't pay as much attention to this stuff then

Example of a comment criticizing the city for prioritizing bike paths for the recent storm

They definitely work overnight. For most streets the signs telling people to move their car cover 12 hour stretches, either 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am.
